Builder Appointed to Land Use Council

NAHB member Bob Jones has been appointed to the new 26-member Michigan Land Use Leadership Council, which was created by Governor Jennifer Granholm. In her election campaign, she called for reform of the state’s land-use policies and discussed their critical bearing on environmental and economic issues.
 
The panel will address a range of key issues, including urban sprawl, urban redevelopment, farmland preservation and water use.

Jones is a member of the NAHB Board of Directors and a past president of the Michigan Home Builders Association.

Co-chaired by former Republican Gov. William Milliken and former Democratic Attorney General Frank Kelley, the council includes representatives from environmental groups, business, the travel industry, builders, Realtors, farmers, county and township government and the NAACP. It also includes two legislators from each political party.
 
Graham is asking the council to present recommendations for state policy by Aug. 15.
