NAHB and Bob the Builder Promote Child Safety
NAHB and HIT entertainment announced that they have begun development of a new public service campaign in which Bob the Builder™ will help educate parents and children on important home safety issues.
The “Blueprints for Home Safety” awareness program includes a “safety first” message in which the popular children’s character advises children to dial 911 in case of an emergency and ask for help; not to touch stoves, toasters, heaters or other items that may be hot; never to play in the kitchen when grown-ups are cooking; to go up and down stairs slowly, and more.
According to the National SAFE KIDS Campaign, unintentional injury is still the number-one killer of the nation’s children. Research shows that more than 4.5 million children are injured in their home every year, and taking simple preventative measures and closely supervising children can help protect them from common household hazards.
The program already has received an enthusiastic thumbs-up from HUD Secretary Mel Martinez, whose agency is “not only committed to ensuring that families have a place to call home, but to keeping our children safe in their homes.”
