Steele Appointed to Crane And Derrick Rulemaking Committee
NAHB builder-member Craig Steele, of Craig Steele, Schuck & Sons Construction Company, Inc., was appointed to the Crane and Derrick Negotiated Rulemaking Advisory Committee, OSHA announced last week. Steele is one of 20 member-stakeholders and will represent the home building industry under the OSHA category of Users-Employers.
The Negotiated Rule Making Committee is charged with developing a proposed revision of the existing construction safety standards for cranes and derricks that will address changes in technology and work processes. The negotiated rulemaking process is the most effective way to work with the parties that will be significantly affected by a final rule.
OSHA published a notice of intent to establish a negotiated rulemaking committee in July 2002. Subsequently, NAHB identified and submitted several builder-member names, including Steele's, to OSHA.
