Rivian produces three models – the R1T pickup truck, the R1S SUV, and an electric delivery van developed in collaboration with Amazon. The idea was that only Amazon would be able to use it, but there may be changes to the agreement underway.

Due to cost-cutting measures, Amazon has placed fewer orders for the vehicle than originally planned for 2023, which may result in Rivian offering the model to other customers as well.

In 2019, Amazon committed to purchasing 100,000 units of the van this decade, but this year’s order is only for 10,000 units. Amazon, however, maintains that it is determined to have purchased 100,000 units before 2030 arrives, but it may be the case that other transport companies start rolling these out.

This is something that Amazon does not object to as they want more people to benefit from the technology.
