Chinese company Baidu asserts that its AI chatbot Ernie is superior to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, as reported by CNBC.
Baidu unveiled Ernie in March and claims that it outperformed ChatGPT in several tests.
For instance, Ernie performed better in typical university admission and qualification tests. It outperformed both ChatGPT and the latest version of the AI chatbot, ChatGPT 4, in Chinese language tests.
In another test consisting of over 13,000 multiple-choice questions across 50+ subjects, Ernie surpassed both ChatGPT and ChatGPT 4.
However, Ernie did not perform as well in all tests. It lagged behind in questions related to certain subjects developed by a group of American universities, such as science and humanities.
Baidu also stated that a distinctive feature of the latest Ernie model is the ability to access “plugins,” which are applications accessible through Ernie Bot. For example, Baidu’s search function has been integrated with Ernie Bot through a plugin.
