The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) foundation, founded by Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan, will donate a supercomputer for AI, as stated on the foundation’s website.
This involves a computer consisting of over 1000 GPUs to be used for AI calculations in biomedicine. The goal is to use the computer to study cells. The idea is that gaining more knowledge about how cells are affected by diseases and new drugs could ultimately lead to the cure, prevention, or management of all physical diseases that can occur in the human body, as stated by CZI.
Today, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative announced the funding and building of one of the largest computing systems dedicated to nonprofit life science research in the world. This new effort will provide the scientific community with access to predictive models of healthy and diseased cells, which will lead to groundbreaking new discoveries that could help cure, prevent, or manage all diseases by the end of this century.
There is currently no information available about when CZI’s AI computer for studying cells may be completed and ready for use.
